Meeting attendance has been lower than the 30 we have contracted for each Friday, so we have formed a Task Force, with Jeff Mandel as Chairman, to see how we can get more people to the meetings.  The committee members are:  Keith Pulley, Gary Tipton, Sally Lewis, Jason Holloway, Mark Smith and Warren Heathman.  If you have any suggestions please call Jeff at (503) 292-8041.

I would like to thank the Program Committee for the GREAT job they have done.  We should have had a full house with Mayor Potter and School Superintendant Vicki Phillips speaking on important subjects, but still there were a few empty seats.  Let’s all help the Task Force with ideas so we can get things on the upswing again.

On a real positive note, we had ten members attend the State Convention in Albany where we donated $6,000 to the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.  That makes $11,000 we have given to the Foundation this year.  The money will help many people in need.  WE SERVE.

The Annual Awards Banquet will be held on Friday, June 9th at the East

Moreland Golf Club.  That is a fun place and a great place to start the social hour at 5:30 P.M.  Dinner will be served at 6:30.  The venue is new for our club, except for the Club Presidents’ Meeting that was held there in early March.  If you need directions or last-minute tickets, call Nita at (971) 544-1539.  Nita would “just love” to take your money for that event.  It is her Swan Song and the inauguration of Keith Pulley’s tenure.  Nita will still chair the club meetings on June 16 and 23, as our new Lion Year begins on July 1.

6/01 Rose Festival Luncheon – Thursday Noon at The Governor Hotel. Tickets are not available at the door. If you find that you can go at this late date, call Gary Leinhard (503) 246-6091. The luncheon will start promptly at 11:30 so the young ladies can get to their next appointment.

6/16 “The Wholesale Food Brokerage Business”:  Mr. Steven Davis of the Pacific Seafood Company will enlighten us about the way food is distributed from the wholesaler to the retailer/consumer.  Lion Gary Tipton will be the Chair of the Day.

6/23  The Portland Business Alliance is in the news these days, so we want to know of the issues that are their concerns. Those issues certainly affect all of us who are concerned about downtown Portland.  The speaker is to be announced.

6/30 The meeting is CANCELLED because of the large number of our members who will be attending the Lions International Convention, in Boston.
